ACK IT’S WAAAARM

The hype train is real. Radwood is actually good. I’m usually not big on hard parkin’, but I went to the one in Austin knowing that this would at least be a good place to show off period-correct Fisher-Price Puffalumps alongside my !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! 1984 Porsche race car. Holy crap, the cars . There were so many good cars . Not just one kind of car, but a little bit of all the cars, for all kinds of uses.

The cars were good.

The Puffalumps sat on so many cars and got so many hugs that it was like a year’s worth of Puffalumping in one day. I stuck most of my arm in an F40 hole...again. There was also free Warsteiner, or as I know it, the beer from old DTM cars.

I saw a few other Oppos in the wild, too, so I figured I’d link the big gallery I did for !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! back over here:

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

I just...the cars. So many cars. So many. So many good cars. I have broken my brain with the cars. Cars.

Kinja'd!!!

Whatchu gonna do with all that puff, all that puff inside that lump?

Cars!

I feel like this post must have gotten lost in the sea of theme day posts. Maybe re-share it tomorrow once things have calmed down.

I'm glad that you had a good time at Radwood. I missed out on the one in Philly this year but if they do another one I might have to go.

I know, I know. I’m just over an hour from there. I’m just not always big on being social, and for  whatever reason I couldn't motivate myself to go that day.

Also, weird, it timestamped as 3:24 p.m. when I’m pretty sure I hit publish way after that. Eh, fixed now.

Radwood is the beginning of the roller skate burger joints, neon wall signs, and fake gas pumps of our generation.

Is that when you started drafting the post maybe? I think it usually just keeps that time unless you change it.

I’ve had this thought before, too, and......meh.

I’m more annoyed by people from my generation zonking out to stupid auction prices, if we’re honest. Just go enjoy your stuff, for Pete’s sake.

Possibly. I don’t remember saving it, but I did take a short break from digging through photos and build stuff to pop in elsewhere.

It’s certainly frustrating to see the cars you want selling for absurd prices. I also think that thanks to the joys of crushing student debt and stagnant wages, my (our? I dunno, I’m 33) generation won’t exactly turn into winga-dinga 2.0 because we’re mostly too broke to all buy car show quality classic cars. I buy cars to drive them, and I'm also happy in something cheap. Growing up I wanted a 911, but I've made peace with the fact that I'll never have that kind of money to spend on a car, and that's ok.

It’s pretty impressive how quickly other mainstream websites (i.e. not Hooniverse or Jalopnik) have taken to calling 1980s and 1990s cars “Radwood Era”.

Before there was no real catch-all, and now that’s the only understood term.

Kinja'd!!!2

Thanks for the coverage.

Radwood show coverage everywhere else puts too much emphasis on the 1980s European models and 1990s Japanese models, at the expense of anything American. Most sites are in danger of leaning towards depicting a crossover car show between yuppies and the Gran Turismo-playing generation - I want to see a bit of   everything , so your photos were refreshingly varied.

I mean, “youngtimer” was the term before in other countries, and I still need to learn German just to get youngtimer mags with 944 stuff all in there. Oh man. So much 924/944 content.

There was a youngtimer race before the ‘Ring 24H last year and I just...couldn’t......even. 944s! On the gottdang Nürburgring! Racing 944s! fdklsa;gjkdlg;jdasmk;fldaglf;dsfndok;lsgjdkl <-----that is exactly what my brain did

the photo viewer on the drive website is terrible. All photos are zoomed when you click on them, cutting off the edges. When you close the selected photo the page scrolls to the bottom.

Cool cars, thanks for sharing!

I noticed this, too—the page was a lot easier to view on mobile, FWIW. They’re still porting over a bunch of things on the backend, so I’ll have to let them know there’s a bug.

This might just be my favorite supercar party trick: stickin’ a whole forearm up into an F40 intake.

(please get permission before fisting other peoples’ supercars, though)

I’d hate to see Radwood taken over by big bucks cars even though they qualify age wise, they don’t philosophicall y... IMO Bring on the SAAB Turbo s and Subaru GL s and AMC Eagle wagons with faux rally stickers!

OTOH seeing an F40 with “antique” plates ... :)   Here in WA state, I ca n get the C ollector plates for my ‘93 Cherokee , i t doesn’t qui te make it to Horseless Carriage cate gory which would truly amuse me ...

Somewhere there’s a collection of photos comparing my fist to the size of various exhausts in the Porsche Museum.

Clearly, I’m not just going to touch museum cars, so that’s as far as it went, but f un was had, regardless.

Those are take-offs just for show. T here’s a paper plate zip-tied to the roll cage to cover my butt. The goal is to have the 944 road-registered for good (not just on a sketchy transit permit) by the Lemons Rally in November, though.

Getting down to brass tacks, fisting usually involves consent and care for well-being, so I think how you did it was pretty appropriate. .. but I’m down for permission slips, safe words, and gloved sterile hands in pipes at the Porsh Museum.

Hopefully that fist album emerges as another post.

I liked that there was a mix of both kinds of cars, but predominantly the regular cars brought by everyone. Gave people the chance to see cars up-close they might not otherwise see, but gave jaded schmucks like me the opportunity to flip out over Volkswagen pickup trucks.
